What stays in your browser

Your recent places, units and theme are saved in your browser's local storage so the site remembers them. They never reach us, and clearing your site data removes them.

Analytics, only if you accept

With your consent, Google Analytics sets cookies to count visits and see which pages are used: pages viewed, approximate location from your IP address, device and browser. Nothing from Google loads until you press Accept, and you can change your choice at any time with Cookie settings at the foot of every page. Google acts as our processor. Lawful basis: consent.

Your location

  • Use my location: only if you press the button and your browser asks permission. Your position, rounded to about a kilometre, goes to our server to find the nearest town. We do not keep it.
  • Home page town: our network provider, Cloudflare, tells the page the rough location of your IP address so we can show your nearest town. We do not store that or tie it to you.

Other companies

Our server fetches weather data, so those providers do not see you. Two exceptions: the site runs on our own server behind Cloudflare, which handles requests; both keep short-lived server logs, and map background tiles load directly from OpenFreeMap, which sees your IP address when you view a map.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can ask what we hold about you and ask us to correct or delete it, and you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk. See the contact page to reach us.
